Beaumont opens in the Greater West!

This month we are very proud to introduce our new Greater West Branch based in downtown Parramatta.  Dealing with both temporary and permanent placements in the Business Services and Banking, Finance & Insurance sectors, we are obviously very excited that our business has experienced continued success allowing us to expand our services.

We would like to congratulate Andrew McDermott who has been promoted into the role of Branch Manager and Helena Barlow who will assist Andrew with the recruitment of all levels of staff.  Although the city office is sad to see them both go, we are at the same time very proud to see them spread their wings.
Don’t hesitate to call either Andrew or Helena on the number below.  We know they will be thrilled to hear from you.

The Parramatta branch contact details are:

Level 7, 91 Phillip Street
Parramatta NSW 2150
Phone: 02 9891 0045

Welcome Back!

This month we also welcome back two of our maternity leave mum’s!

Nikki Beaumont is back in the driving seat after 6 months maternity leave, and is working Tuesday through Thursdays.

Sian Keegan has also rejoined the team in a new role of Business Development Executive.  Great to have you back, ladies!

Entering the world of Temping

Doing temporary work can serve so many purposes.  It can be used to fill the gap whilst looking for permanent work; it's ideal for those who are either travelling to Australia and available for a finite amount of time or those thinking of travelling later in the year and unable to commit to a permanent role. It can be a great way to boost your resume and build on your workplace skills.

If you have never temped before though, where do you start?  How do you get the most of your position?  How much can you earn and how much experience to you need?  Over the next couple of newsletters, we will be addressing the issues we believe our candidates may want to know.

Some Types of Temp Work

A lot of people who come to us to temp don't know what sort of short term jobs are available.  Here's a run down on some of the most popular roles, what you need to do them and what to expect.

Call centre work:  There is usually an abundance of call centre temping work in Sydney.  The most common you will find is customer service (usually inbound) and sales (either outbound or inbound).  For customer service work, you will need to have very clear communication skills and some sort of customer service experience (retail or hospitality experience is highly regarded).  For sales work, you will again need clear communication skills and you will need to be resilient and able to build rapport on the phone.  This is an excellent way to gain experience if you are thinking of getting into financial services, on the road sales/account management or careers such as recruitment.

General Administration:  A company will usually ask for someone to help with general administration when there is a back log of paper work or computer work, for meeting a deadline on a project or to provide basic assistance whilst someone is on holidays.  For data entry roles, you will usually need a minimum of 45 wpm or 6000 KSPH.  Other work may include filing, photocopying, running errands, Dictaphone typing, database administration and archiving.

Reception:   For all reception roles, you will need to be very well presented (a suit jacket or long sleeved button down shirt is often required), have a very clear communication style and be polite and friendly.  You need to have the ability to juggle tasks for example, you may face situations where you are required to answer the phone, greet a customer and sign for a courier parcel all at the one time!  For corporate reception desks, you will need switchboard experience (either manual or digital).

PA/EA/Team Assistant:  You will need advanced computer skills, exceptional organisational skills and have the ability to problem solve and make decisions.  You will either work one on one with a manager or for a number of managers.  These types of roles tend to be for a minimum of 2 weeks and may extend for anything up to a year

Accounting:  The most common roles that come up are accounts payable, accounts receivable/collections, payroll, book keeping.  You will generally need experience and knowledge of the working system (e.g. MYOB, QuickBooks, SAP)

Specialist:  A company will often need cover whilst looking for a permanent employee or whilst an employee is on holidays.  They also may need to contract a skilled person for project work. The most common specialist roles we see are in marketing, human resources, project management or financial services.  You will need solid experience, the ability to hit the ground running and good references.

In our next newsletter, we will be covering our top 10 tips on getting the best temp jobs and staying in them.  We will also look at rates of pay.  If you think of anything else you would like to know, please let us know by emailing temp@beaumtonconsulting.com.au .  We will answer as promptly as possible and may include in the next newsletter.
