How to Get the Job You Want - Five easy steps to stick by

Many people suffer with anxiety about getting the perfect job. Here are some simple rules to stick by that will bring you closer to your goals.

  1. Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all?
Your goal is to get the job; the employer’s goal is to get the best. You must look at yourself objectively. Step outside the square, and ask what are your strengths, weaknesses? How do they help my future job? Don’t forget your hobbies, and if you speak other languages, these attribute to your qualities and help define your skills. Focus in on your attributions, and stress room for growth and learning.
  2. Confidence is the key
Know what you want, and go for what you want. No goal is unachievable if you set yourself to it. If you show you aren’t confident in your abilities your employer will think you are incompetent for the job. If you are relaxed, comfortable and confident people automatically respond to you.
  3. Act like you want it and will work at it
The best thing to offer to a job is a sense of willingness to complete any task. Employers look for someone enthusiastic and eager. The last person they are going to hire is someone disinterested and reluctant to do the work required of them.
  4. The whole package
Don’t ignore job offers, because they aren’t up to scratch to what you want. Have you looked at the whole package? Think of opportunities. What some job offers lack in salaries may attribute for benefits such as flexible hours, penalties, travel, location, opportunity, contacts, culture, growth, and promotion.
  5. First impressions last
Presentation is the first thing an employer sees. Walking into an interview room with untidy hair or un-ironed shirt does not look good. Apart from appearance act professional, don’t slouch or bite fingernails. Most of all have a professional looking resume; even if you think there is nothing professional on it, make it look like it.

Tax

Tax File Alert

Workers are being warned by the Tax Office about protecting their tax file numbers (TFN). Identity crime is an increasing threat, as many people dismiss TFN’s unknowingly.  People are being reminded that only a select amount of organizations are allowed to ask for your TFN.

The people that are allowed to access to your TFN

  • Tax office
  • Employer when you start work
  • Bank or financial institution
  • Tax agent
  • Centrelink
  • Superannuation fund

Fast Track Skills Shortages

The Rudd government has decided to fast track the Skilling Australia for the Future policy underlined in the election. The policy pledges to fund 450,000 training places over the next 4 years.

The fast track of the policy is addressing the nation’s skills shortages. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced that “the first 20,000 of the additional trading places will be available by April this year”. This will be aimed towards the mining and construction sectors.

According to the PM the new legislation will be brought to the parliament as a matter of priority where migrant skills will also be assessed. “The nation needs to deal with the real economic challenges represented by the current skills shortages” Mr. Rudd said.

Workforce Updates

Australian Work Choices
Australian Work Choices Agreement has been officially disembarked by the Labour government. Labours opposition leader Kevin Rudd officially committed to Labour’s decision to abolish the governments Work Choices legislation. This restores workers rights to public holidays, paid leave, and redundancy provisions.

Lucky Ladies
The trend has been set by Myer as they are providing paid maternity leave for pregnant women. Myer will be paying staff 6 weeks maternity leave in hope to attract and maintain its employees. This strengths the movements for paid maternity leave to be standardised in Australia.
