Feb 11 Newsletter
Welcome to our Newsletter!
It is the beginning of February and 2011 is well and truly under way for us here at Beaumont Consulting and as usual we have many exciting things to report to you about our business, our people and more importantly what is happening with the market when it comes to finding and hiring top talent.
Internally, we have had some sad news with the departure of Pauline Carr who was part of the
As for good news we have exciting things to report about myself and other members of the
Myself and Nikki Beaumont have attended service reviews with our clients over the last few weeks and the results have been fantastic. We have discovered that we have some extremely happy clients who have reported excellent levels of service from their consultants. We have also walked away with lots of new ideas from our clients about how we can do things better and even ideas for new client events. Look out for calls from us over the coming months to discuss meeting for a service review, it’s your chance to tell us what you really think.
We have a new starter in our IT Division. Sheweta Dhall, an experienced consultant is starting with us on Monday 14th February and will be in touch with you regarding any hiring requirements that you may have in the IT area. We also welcomed Rebecca Green to the CBD Branch who joined the Business Services Division in January.
January has been a rather interesting month for us. It was a fairly slow start to the month but the momentum has built and we are now seeing a much larger quantity of requirements coming through from our clients across the board. Our Property and Construction Division is the busiest they have been in six months which itself is a positive sign for the economy.
Have a wonderful month and a message for all our readers…don’t forget Valentines Day on the 14th February!

Market News
Unemployment drops but long-term jobless still struggling to find workAustralia’s unemployment rate has dropped from 5.2% to 5% – with 11.417m people now working, the latest labour force figures reveal. But separate Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show the proportion of long-term unemployed is on the up. The labour force figures show the employment rise in December was driven by more full-time and part-time jobs – up 1,700 to 8.034m and 600 to 3.383m respectively.
The number of unemployed people dropped 25,400 to 598,700, while the participation rate declined slightly to 65.8% from a record 66% high in November. Meanwhile, the bureau’s job search experience study for July 2010 showed the long-term jobless were still finding it difficult to find work and were accounting for a growing proportion of unemployment statistics. Of the 578,700 Australians unemployed in July 2010, 18% had been unemployed for at least one year. That was up on 2009’s 16% figure.
ABS identified the main difficulties in finding work for the long-term unemployed as: too many applicants; too far to travel/transport problems and ill-health or disability.

Your Staff Attachment
With the change to the Sydney recruitment market from candidate rich to the other extreme of candidate poor we are all in a position where we need to make sure we are doing everything possible to make sure that our staff are attached to us as employers.
Attachment is the process that occurs between new employee and the business, based on the core attachment principles of Security, Trust & Value, Acceptance and Belonging.
Employment social structures have new members joining them on a regular basis. Every new employee goes through the Critical Attachment Period in the first 120 days of employment during which their core attachment perceptions are formed based on 20 workplace drivers.
The impact of the direct report manager or supervisor in the workplace is significant. Over 80% of the perceptions formed in this time are directly influenced by the behaviours of and interactions with this person.
Failure to assess your level of attachment with new recruits will have an ongoing financial impact to your business.
Beaumont consulting have been working with Sork HC and using their attachment evaluation surveys to evaluate our new members of staff throughout the attachment period. Our management team have also found the feedback from these surveys very useful in our induction process.
From the 1st January we will be offering a free service to our clients for all placements that occur from 1st January onwards.
If you are interested in these surveys please contact your Consultant at Beaumont Consulting so that they can discuss the process, reports and what you can expect from them in more detail.
In addition to this new value add, we will also be hosting events with Anthony Sork from Sork HC on the following topics:
16th March - HR Lunchtime forum for our Not For Profit Clients
3rd May – Why Social Contribution Via Organisations Builds Profitability
If you are interested in attending any of these breakfasts please contact Taheeya Rahman on 9279 2777 or email her at taheeya.rahman@beaumontconsulting.com.au.

Secrets of a great career revealed! International Speaker, Trainer and Coach Kim Seeling Smith will spill the beans on the lessons she learned from working with over 5,000 people during her 15 years as a recruiter.
International Speaker, Trainer and Coach Kim Seeling Smith will spill the beans on the lessons she learned from working with over 5,000 people during her 15 years as a recruiter. She learned why some capable and talented people easily reach their career goals and other, equally capable and talented people fall short by either plateauing or worse, senselessly sliding backwards as their near their goals. It turns out that it's not ability, training, education, personality, political astuteness or even luck that makes the difference. You will probably be surprised (Kim certainly was when she worked it out). She has now taught these concepts to 100's of people.
In this webinar Kim will reveal as many of these secrets as an hour will allow.
You will learn how to:
- Set a 3 - 5 year plan that excites you and helps you reach your goals
- Figure out what your "Special Sauce" is and how you can add that to create an exciting career and life long opportunities for yourself
- Determine what skills you need to master to reach your goals
- Learn how to overcome any setbacks - personal or professional
Join her here! Thursday, February 10, 12PM.
Managers, this is a great webinar for your staff as well. Recent stats say that career development / management is the number 1 thing employees want to stay with a company. And you'll LOVE step 2 in Kim's 4 step process, which is all about reigniting your professional passion and realising that the grass is NOT always greener elsewhere.
Kim Seeling Smith is an international speaker, trainer and coach on Staff Retention and Career Management issues after having spent 15 years as a recruiter in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, studying the differences between:
- Those capable and talented people who successfully reach their career goals and those equally capable and talented people who plateau or senselessly slide backwards as they near them.
- And those companies that are extremely successful in keeping their critical people and those that consistently battle staff turnover.
Kim is a co-author in the soon to be released book, "101 Great Ways to Enhance Your Career" due out in the US in early 2011. Look for it on Amazon.
