welcome
Welcome to our newsletter
It’s been a wonderful month for us here at Beaumont, with our Company Conference at the end of October then Melbourne Cup Celebrations the following week, life feels a bit like one long party here, and Christmas is just around the corner, phew!
Our company annual conference was held at the Establishment, which is a wonderful venue, one of the highlights was our grand finale session with Human Rhythms. We had 45 minutes of team work, creating an amazing musical masterpiece, all orchestrated by a pair of mad drumming enthusiasts without even a word being spoken. We can certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to add some energy to a team building event or conference, we loved it and it certainly ended the conference on an all time high.
The other highlight has to be our annual awards evening over dinner, please join me in congratulating this years award winners:
• Emily Wheeldon – Branch Manager of the Year
• Justine McKnight – Service Excellence
• Janine Runaghan – Personal Achiever
• Patricia Leach – Outstanding Support Person of the Year
• Amy Braisby – Highest Revenue Producer
• Katie Newell – Best New Starter
• Rebecca Choularton – Values Award
• Janine Hayne – Appreciation of Contribution
• Janine Runaghan – People Choice Award
We welcome some new Consultants to the team this month, Kelly Craddock and Romina Feeney joined our North Shore office specialising in Permanent Roles and Rachel Hassall joined our Not for Profit Division based in the city.
The next few weeks are always busy in the run up to Christmas, we are especially busy here at Beaumont as we have our annual clothes swap to raise funds for Dress for Success and we are also supporting the Magic Moments Foundation which delivers food and gifts and hampers to those less privileged than ourselves at Christmas. If you would like to support or participate, we would really appreciate that, you will find more details in the newsletter.
Enjoy the festive season!

Market News
Job vacancies rise 6.9%, IPA says the number of job vacancies nationwide has risen as the retail sector began temporary hiring for Christmas.
Job agency IPA Recruitment said the number of job vacancies rose 6.9 per cent in October, following a 5.7 per cent decline in September.
The survey found skills shortages continue to be an issue with many businesses upskilling staff internally to take advantage of government funding.
"On the candidate front, the talent pool is holding steady but many employers are opening in the boom states to follow people's lifestyle moves and get hold of the best talent," the IPA survey said.
IPA general manager of sales and marketing Darrell Hewton said the increase was typical for this time of the year as many employers prepare for the Christmas period.
"The sentiment amongst retailers is they are definitely more positive heading into this Christmas as opposed to the previous year where the effects of the downturn were still being experienced," Mr Hewton said.
He said skill shortages continue to loom particularly in industries such as health, education and professional services which are showing steady demand in available positions.
He predicts the UK government's massive public spending cuts, coupled with a higher tax rate, are likely to cost 1.6 million British jobs.
"We anticipate an influx of skilled migrant workers which will contribute positively to skill shortages across the nation," he said.

Dos and Don'ts for the Office Christmas Party
The office Christmas party conjures up images of drunk colleagues, uncomfortable ‘secret Santas’ and business banter with the office bore. So is it any wonder that so many people start looking for a job in the New Year? And why does the line ‘What I don't like about office Christmas party is looking for a job the next day’ sound so familiar to you?
The annual office party can boost your career but, it can also break it. Here are some dos and don’ts of office Christmas party etiquette aimed to keep your job, reputation and dignity in one piece.
Do attend. Your office party is not an optional event. Even if you despise the thought of spending a whole evening with the people you work with every day, it’s a good idea to make an appearance. It shows that you are part of the team.
Don’t dress inappropriately. And do dress professionally. The venue will determine the dress code so make sure you know what it is. “Women are advised to stay away from slinky dresses, low-plunging necklines, short-short skirts or tight-fitting trousers” according to workplace etiquette expert Pamela Holland. Men “should refrain from unbuttoning more than two buttons on their shirts and wearing overly fitted shirts that show off their muscles”.
Do some schmoozing. This is a good time to talk to people you wouldn’t normally come across and, of course, the boss. This could help you in the long term in terms of forging alliances, helping to get things done or just raising your profile. But…
… Don’t talk shop. Do you want to be seen as the office bore? The office party gives you the chance to get to know people as people not just ‘Julie from accounts’.
Do drink in moderation. Excessive drinking is the number one cause of office party ‘incidents’. Remember, it is a marathon not a sprint and it is likely that you will have a long evening ahead of you. But, by the time you realise this you may have already consumed enough alcohol to sink a battleship and not quite be with it. Stick to your limit, drink slowly or alternate between alcohol and water and, if it’s too late for that, then switch to soft drinks and mince pies. And resist the temptation to indulge in tequila shots or flaming drambuie or you may end up losing more than your inhibitions!
Don’t make a move on a colleague. After a few hours and a few beers even Barbara from credit control can look like a goddess. A poll by Tickbox.net commissioned by Quattro Wilkinson Sword revealed that 41% of workers admit to having a sexual liaison with a co-worker at an office party. But, before you make a bee-line for the person you’ve had your eye on all year, do yourself a favour, stay put and think, ‘Is this a good idea?’ ‘Probably not’, is the likely answer. What’s more, in a survey conducted by ContractorUK 13% of female workers who have had a pass made on them by a male co-worker end up lodging an official complaints about their colleagues’ conduct.
Do watch your language. Remember the reason why you are at the Christmas party in the first place is because you have a job. Avoid saying things you wouldn’t say on a normal office day.
Don’t leave too soon. Tequila slammers with the girls from HR may be more appealing than your department’s party. But, unless you have made a holy show of yourself, stay for at least a couple of hours even if it is the most boring party ever. After all, it’s your boss that you need to impress when it comes to getting a promotion.
Above all, enjoy the party. Strive to be remembered for the right reasons and not for your lustful antics or David Brent dancing. And, in the words of the great man himself from “The Office”, when asked how he would like to be remembered, he replied: “Simply, as, the man who put a smile on the face of all who he met.”
