August Temp of the Month

We have so many fabulous temps working for us and we regularly receive great feedback from the companies that we work with so we decided to acknowledge outstanding performance with our "Temp of the Month award".

Our August Temp of the Month award goes to Rachael Evans who is working at Cabcharge. Rachael has received great feedback from her boss saying “At times we have to tell Rachael to slow down – she is a brilliant worker”. She receives $100 vouchers from Myer. Well done Rachael.

Worst Interview Winner

We heard some true horror stories about your experiences with interviews (thankfully none were with us – hooray!), and want to thank all of you who wrote in and shared your experiences. After much deliberation we decided the winner was Prakash who felt like he had walked into a firing range on one of his recent interviews, he had irrelevant questions, felt like he was being interrogated, and all by a person who didn’t know much about the role he was applying for, he left shaking like a leaf – 2 cinema tickets are on the way to you Prakash.

Top 5 excuses to use if you get caught napping at work:

1. They told me at the blood donor place this might happen...
2. This is just a 15 minute power nap like they raved about in the last time management course you sent me on
3. Whew... guess I left the top off the liquid paper
4. This is one of the seven habits of highly effective people.
5. Boy, that cold and flu medicine I took last night has really hit me!"

Your resume – Be Specific

Your resume should provide employers and recruitment consultants with insight about you. It should help them understand what you have to offer, what you have achieved and the level of responsibility that has been thrust upon you.

Below is a list of words and phrases that are commonly used on resumes, but are totally useless unless they are explained, so remember to either avoid these words altogether or expand on them in order for them to be effective……

Liaise, Involved, Contributed, Assisted, Participate, Support, Key Role, Dealt With, Strategic, Facilitate, Considerable, Significant, Substantial, and Utilise. – Be Specific!

Corporate Lesson #3

A sales representative, an administration clerk and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.  They rub it and a Genie comes out in a puff of smoke.  The Genie says, "I usually only grant three wishes, so I'll give each of you just one."

"Me first! Me first!" says the admin clerk.  "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world."  Poof!

She's gone.

In astonishment, "Me next!  Me next!" says the sales rep.  "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of piña coladas, and the love of my life."  Poof!

He's gone.

"OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager.

The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.
